JET aims to develop nuclear fusion based on hydrogen as a new source of energy.

Normally this nuclear fusion takes place in the sun. To do it on Earth, the fuel must be heated to temperatures of more than 100 million°C - ten times hotter than the centre of the sun! In fact, temperatures higher than 300 million°C have been achieved by JET.
